"The ability to speak requires the correct anatomical equipment"
Bigfoot Vocalizations & Neanderthal Speech
The ability to speak requires the correct anatomical equipment. Studying the Neanderthal skeleton can provide answers to questions about the species ability for speech. Along with what they may have sounded like.
Humans speak when we open our mouths to make a sound while forcing air from the lungs through the larynx. Tiny muscles in the vocal cords fine-tune and adjust the frequency to produce a vocalization we form into speech.
Research assumes early hominids would of used vocal cords too. Apes are unable to produce complex vocalizations to form verbal speech because of a system of large air sacs. They may enhance loud calls, but also inhibit the ability to speak.
Vocal cords of the muscles in the larynx have not been found in tact on any known Neanderthal specimen. However there is a u-shape bone called the hyoid that sits near the front of the throat under the jawbone. It is an anchor for ligaments and muscles in the throat used for speaking and swallowing.
Modeling the Neanderthal hyoid in a computer simulation researchers experimented with the Neanderthal ability to speak. It is larger than a human, but may have been able to create complex sounds associated with speech.
More on Neanderthal Throat & Ability to Speak Below
We often wonder if Bigfoot has the ability to speak. Would it be more like Homo Sapiens, Neanderthal or something completely different.. Some of the Bigfoot style vocalizations captured over the years have been eerie, terrifying or down right intriguing. These calls may give some insight into what Bigfoot speech may sound like if Bigfoot has the ability to speak.
